Central & Remote: August 3rd – 5th

A round up of the best/weirdest things to do this weekend in Toronto…

Friday August 3rd

THE READING NOOK | Narwhal Art Projects

Narwhal has its act together. Since 2008 the gallery has been exploring and highlighting where art and design meet. Their interest is in the overlap and the potential that brings. The gallery brings in an artist they’re interested in the development of and helps them gain exposure and leave a lasting legacy by placing works into collections and through its publications; from catalogs to artist multiplies.

This Friday is the opening reception for The Reading Nook, an exhibition emphasizing those artist multiples along with ‘zines and books made by the artists.  It’s a name-heavy showing but highlights include a 40 colour 35 x 70 triptych print by Montréal screen printing duo Seripop, the high contract and intricate works of Alexandra McKenzie, and the graphical patterns of Ella Selbie. Curated by Alicia Nauta this exhibit promises lots of neon,  ink and psychedelic collage.

About Yuli Scheidt

Yuli was born at the exact moment in 1986 when the Challenger Space Shuttle exploded and rained down on the ocean. As a child she believed this meant she was destined for greatness in the realm of space travel and radioastronomy. Nothing remotely as awesome as that has happened so far. Instead Yuli, at the age of 18, relocated from Calgary to Ottawa where she studied photography, life sciences and graphic design before moving to Toronto. [More by Yuli]
